Jack Meehan

Jack was born, bred & educated in Southland. On leaving school Jack began his farming career in Northern Southland before moving on to work on properties in both Otago & Canterbury. In 1979 Jack took on his first Management role on a property owned by Landcorp. In 1986 he moved to the Waikaka area to take up further management roles until 2005 when he was appointed to the position of Sales & Marketing Manager for Wairere South Romney’s before joining PW&A Ltd In July 2012

Jack continues to live in Waikaka and will be covering the Southland and Otago areas

Outside his family his interests include rugby, dog trials & harness racing. He is very much involved in the local community of Waikaka and the surrounding district.

Austin Smith
Northern Southland, Southland, Trainee

Austin is a born and bred Southlander spending his younger years in Gore attending secondary school at St Peters College. During Austin’s school holidays he spent time on his grandfather’s farm and as he got older he then started working on both sheep and beef farms around the Gore district gaining knowledge in all areas of the farming sector. He also secured himself a part-time job as a barman in a local pub.
In 2016 Austin attended Lincoln University completing a Diploma in Agriculture and during Mid-2017 was employed by PW&A Ltd as a Trainee Livestock Broker.
In his spare time Austin plays Division 2 Rugby for Albion Excelsior in Gore and spends time with his mates.

Ross McKerchar

Ross has a long established career in the Stock & Station Industry in the Southland region and has built an extensive client network throughout the farming community.

He has excellent knowledge of the local marketplace and has a wealth of experience as an Auctioneer. He was the founder of ‘South Stock Ltd’ alongside Terry Cairns, which was a successful company up until the recent merger with Peter Walsh & Associates.

Farming sheep and beef on the family farm just outside of Winton in Central Southland, Ross has empathy and understanding of farming and the ups and downs that goes with the industry. 

Ross is known for his honesty, loyalty and trust which are important traits to uphold while working with fellow team members, farmers, professionals etc.

Outside work Ross is a Life member of the Midlands Rugby Club and also member of Winton RSA Bowling Club, Winton Golf Club, Winton Harness Racing Club and Winton Jockey Club.  Ross also enjoys following his sons sporting pursuits which include rugby, cricket and water ski-ing.

Murray Mitchell

Murray was born and bred in Dipton where he attended primary school before attending Waitaki Boys as a boarder in Oamaru. Murray has had an extensive career in the livestock industry. Starting out as a stock worker in 1966, he then worked as an agent for several livestock companies in Southland and spent 28 years as a beef buyer for Alliance. Murray then made the break and joined Ross McKerchar and Terry Cairns as a South Stock livestock agent. Murray and Pauline raised two children; Matt who now lives in the States with his two children, and Monique who has just shifted back to Winton with her two children. Murray enjoys spending time with his family, Friday nights at the local, fishing, whitebaiting and being out in the garden. He is also an avid sports fan - especially rugby.

Anton Nally
Southland, Dairy Specialist

Anton was raised in rural Southland on a sheep and deer farm. He has had an extensive career in the farming industry, working on both sheep and dairy farms. After doing the Big OE, he returned to NZ and worked in the forestry industry following the completion of a Diploma in Arborculture through Otago Polytechnic. For the last 8 years, Anton has been working as a dairy agent in Southland and joined PWA in July 2018. Him and his wife Rachel and four children spend their weekends either watching sport or fishing and deer stalking.
